Why should I take out health insurance ??

Health insurance is a necessary condition for legal residence within the CR.
The  insurance is designed for foreigners who are not citizens of European Union countries and cannot participate in the Czech public health insurance system.
The insurance fulfi ls the conditions of the Act on the Residence of Foreign Nationals in the Territory of the Czech Republic, and is recognised
by the bodies of the Ministry of the Interior of the CR
The Health Insurance for Foreigners is also eff ective within the Schengen Area territories.

Two basic types of insurance for foreigners:

1. Insurance for acute and emergency medical care

is designed for foreigners who plan to reside within CR territory for a maximum 90
day period and are applying for a short-term visa. This insurance is sufficient you apply for your visa at missions of the Czech Republic
abroad (embassies).

2. Comprehensive health insurance for foreigners

is designed for foreigners who plan to reside within Czech Republic territory for longer
than 90 days and are applying for a long-term visa or long-term residency.
This insurance is required if you apply for a visa or visa extension
within the territory of the Czech Republic.
